Twinkle's Song: Twinkle, Twinkle, Great Big Dog! One of our Katie & Kimble readers wondered if Twinkle had a song. Here's the answer!
Twinkle sort of does have a song! Here is what I am thinking. Well, have you read the Kimble, Kimble chant? It's over on the right sidebar and also on the last page of the Katie & Kimble books.
Well,
this chant almost fits into the melody of "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little
Star." I especially like the part where it goes, "Twinkle, Twinkle,
great big dog!"
So, I guess, at this point, Twinkle's song is "Twinkle, Twinkle, Great Big Dog!" I thought that was kind of fun!
Here
is how the Kimble, Kimble chant fits into the melody of "Twinkle,
Twinkle, Little Star." You CHANT the first two lines: Kimble, Kimble is
a ghost. Katie, Katie loves her most!
Then you can either keep
chanting, or you can start singing, "Twinkle, Twinkle, great big dog."
And if you start singing there, the rest of the chant fits into the
song perfectly! I did not plan that, so I think it's pretty funny!
Give it a try!
Fun Katie & Kimble Hint: On the sidebars, click on the yellow stripes to hear Twinkle barking!

Teachers & Homeschoolers- FREE Katie & Kimble Materials Now Available! Hey,
teachers and homeschoolers! Free Katie & Kimble
classroom/ homeschool materials are now available to download from the
Katie & Kimble Blog!
As of August 15, 2008, I have uploaded the full set of brand new Activity Packets that accompany
Katie & Kimble: A Ghost Story (280L) and the full set of new Activity Packets for Katie & Kimble: The Magic Wish (290L).
NOW the free downloadable, printable Awards Package for each book is included right in the file with the Activity Packets. Readers can mark their progress with color-in ribbons!
Answer Keys are now available, too. See below.
Each Activity Packet covers two chapters and
contains 7 Activity Pages (reading skills, word skills, comprehension,
apply text to self, writing, etc.).
The first page of each Activity Packet is a
Table of Contents/Cover page for the packet. Teachers and homeschoolers can
decide which Activity Pages to use in each packet, and kids can check
off each Activity Page on the Contents page as they complete it (very
motivating, as they can see their progress). The
Contents page/Cover sheet also contains pre-reading activities (predictions) for the
chapters that follow. These Katie & Kimble Activity Packets are
available to download free of charge.
As some of you know, I used to be an English teacher (ESL). I also
used to create materials on a regular basis, both for my own classes
and for the language programs that employed me. So, it just follows
naturally that I would wish to create some materials to go along with Katie & Kimble: A Ghost Story and Katie & Kimble: The Magic Wish.
These materials are RL3 (third grade). As my guide, I have used the
requirements from two Iowa school systems for reading skills in their
third grade classrooms and the national standards for third grade.
Plus, I've had the input of a wonderful third grade teacher, Mrs. Juli
Dodd, MA, who specializes in reading.
I have Reading/Writing Activities and Class/Group Activities,
including prompts for writing reports on things related to the Katie
& Kimble story. I've also created topics and prompts to go with my
Childhood Stories that you will find on the right sidebar under the
Katie & Kimble Activity Corner.
You can download all the materials free of charge below and make copies
for your own personal use or for classroom use. And don't forget the
free downloadable coloring pages!

This Awards Package has been
designed to accompany the Activity Packets for Katie & Kimble: A
Ghost Story and Katie & Kimble: The Magic Wish.
The file, the Katie & Kimble
Awards Package, consists of one four-inch ribbon to be awarded to the
reader upon the completion of each Activity Packet. The ribbons
are designed to be printed out and work equally well in color or in
black and white/grayscale.
Suggested Use
When the reader has finished
Activity Packet 1A, for example—the “1” meaning Book 1 and the “A”
meaning the first packet—give the reader the ribbon for packet
1A. The reader can color in the ribbon, cut it out and write her or his name
on the blank ribbon. The reader can then collect the ribbons, pin
them or tape them up on the wall or on a bulletin board, and watch her
or his progress grow. At the end of each of the Katie &
Kimble books, the reader is to be awarded one of the bigger, six-inch
ribbons to signify having completed the entire book and all six of the
Activity Packets.
The printable ribbons can be downloaded here. There are six small ribbons per book and one large ribbon per book.

Katie & Kimble Blog: A Visit from a Baseball Player! Have
you read the story about the baseball player I knew when I was a kid?
It's over on the right sidebar of the Katie & Kimble Blog. It's
called "When I was 9: The Baseball Player," and it's a true story.
When
we lived in Minnesota, Rich Rollins was the third baseman for the
Minnesota Twins. He was also our neighbor. When I created the Katie
& Kimble blog, I wrote a a true story about Rich and posted it on
the blog.
Well, one day, Rich's son, Jim Rollins, was googling his dad's name and
he came across my story on this blog. Then, when he went over to visit
his parents, he showed them the story. Here is what Jim had to say: "I showed [my dad] the story and he really enjoyed the memory." It was a lot of fun for my family to hear from Rich, his wife Lynn, and their son, Jim, too! Thanks, Jimmy!

[A Chapter Book at Reading Level 3, for ages 7-10, 280L]
Nine-year-old Katie Russell and her family LOOK
like a normal family. But the Russells don't know they are living with
Kimble, the ghost of a ten-year-old girl. That is, until Katie
discovers Kimble and the two of them set off on a quest to find out
what happened to Kimble's mother.
This month, we are giving away 12 copies of Katie & Kimble: A Ghost Story,
a chapter book for ages 7-10. The book is also suitable for
reading aloud to six year olds. The story is funny and exciting,
but not fear-based and not too intense for the six through ten
set. However, it has a very high interest level and is quite a
sophisticated story, one that will keep the older kids engrossed, as well.
Katie & Kimble: A Ghost Story is the first book in a chapter book series. The second book, Katie & Kimble: The Magic Wish, is also available.
See the New Katie & Kimble: A Ghost Story Video! Here's something fun to do! Watch the new video for Katie &
Kimble: A Ghost Story! The video tells the story of how Katie and
Kimble meet, shows lots of colored pictures, and uses the Kimble,
Kimble chant. You can find the words to the Kimble, Kimble chant over
on the right sidebar of this blog and chant along.
You can click here to watch the video on You Tube, or you can watch the video below.
