children's book author Linda Thieman!
[Reading Level 3, 280L, for ages 7-10]
1) Rave & Review (Leanne's review of Katie & Kimble: A Ghost Story) “Katie & Kimble: A Ghost Story
takes you to traditionally spooky locations and situations but does so
in a lighthearted way that is anything but scary even for young
readers.... I really like[d] that the book was about something very
different than I had seen before and the opportunities were huge to
engage in good discussions with your kids ... about the topics brought
up in the book.”
2) She Scribes (Kimberly's review of Katie & Kimble: A Ghost Story)
“This is not really a "Ghost" story, per se, but more so a story about
friendship and having that special bond with someone. It has a lot of
funny parts in it, too."
3) Mom's Most Wanted (Stefanie's review of Katie & Kimble: A Ghost Story) “I was fortunate enough to receive Linda Thieman’s book, Katie & Kimble: A Ghost Story.
My son was home when it arrived. He is 7 years old and an avid reader.
As soon as he got it in his hands, he sat down on the couch and didn’t
stop reading it until he was finished. He absolutely loved the book. I
thought that since he had read it and loved it so much, I had to read
it.... The book is extremely well-written and is easy to follow for a
child, as well as an adult. I think I loved the book as much as my son
did!... I feel it should be a must-read for every school."
4) Pink & Posh (Jeri's review of Katie & Kimble: A Ghost Story) “Throughout this story as well as its sequel, Katie & Kimble: The Magic Wish,
the girls work together to solve puzzles and mysteries that kept my
daughter and even myself ready to find out the endings. But, don’t let
the “ghost” titles fool you. These books are light-hearted and fun and
are not at all based on fear. We had a blast reading this series
together.... My daughter is 6, and may be a little younger than most
Katie & Kimble fans, but she is super excited to see if there will
be a third story in this wonderful set of books for young mystery
lovers.”
[From Linda: Yes, there will be. Book 3 is called Katie & Kimble: The Golden Door and it will be available in early 2010.]

Katie & Kimble Go Green! You might not notice how “green” the Katie & Kimble: A Ghost Story chapter book series is until you get to the second book, Katie & Kimble: The Magic Wish.
In the second Katie & Kimble
book, we discover that the Russell family is trying to eat healthier
foods. Can you think of an example? That’s right—they only have pizza
on special occasions and they don’t eat much red meat anymore.
Katie’s
family also cares about the earth and about all living things, like
trees. For example, when Katie’s dad does the grocery shopping, he
takes cloth bags with him. No paper or plastic for him! And when he
puts up a swing on the old oak tree in the backyard, he’s very careful
not to harm the tree and he doesn’t use any nails at all.
Mr. Russell also shows how much he cares about the earth when he sings one of his favorite songs in Katie & Kimble: The Magic Wish. It’s called “For the Beauty of the Earth.” It’s a beautiful old hymn. You can listen to free samples of the song here.

Twinkle's Song: Twinkle, Twinkle, Great Big Dog! Twinkle, Katie Russell's big Old English sheepdog, is one of the most popular characters in the Katie & Kimble: A Ghost Story series. One of our Katie & Kimble readers wondered if Twinkle had a song. Here's the answer!
Twinkle sort of does have a song! Here is what I am thinking. Well, have you read the Kimble, Kimble chant? It's over on the right sidebar and also on the last page of the Katie & Kimble books.
Well,
this chant almost fits into the melody of "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little
Star." I especially like the part where it goes, "Twinkle, Twinkle,
great big dog!"
So, I guess, at this point, Twinkle's song is "Twinkle, Twinkle, Great Big Dog!" I thought that was kind of fun!
Here
is how the Kimble, Kimble chant fits into the melody of "Twinkle,
Twinkle, Little Star." You CHANT the first two lines: Kimble, Kimble is
a ghost. Katie, Katie loves her most!
Then you can either keep
chanting, or you can start singing, "Twinkle, Twinkle, great big dog."
And if you start singing there, the rest of the chant fits into the
song perfectly! I did not plan that, so I think it's pretty funny!
Give it a try!
You can listen to the Kimble, Kimble chant when you watch the Katie & Kimble: A Ghost Story video here!
Or, click on Freddie on the left sidebar up at the top of this blog
page. She's the Katie & Kimble Blog host and she will recite the
Kimble, Kimble chant for you!
